Last year a model was produced to give semantics to an Application Programmers Interface (API) for Philips Media Systems. The goal was to get a testable API. The produced model has two faces: a partially informal "Object Modelling Technique" face and a formal "COLD-1 plus statecharts" face. Questions are raised like where COLD-1 should stop and statecharts should begin, or how to underpin object view and behavioural view in a consistent way. More generally, the problem was encountered to combine formalisms that describe static structure and those that describe dynamic behaviour. This seems to be a starting point of an industrial case study in the research area of DeStijl, from which the API modelling and related standardisation effort may profit.
