1996 Competition Statistics
The Competitors
Ninety students arrived at DCU, about a third came from Dublin and a third
from the North of Ireland. Only three girls competed.
Are girls not interested in computers ? Or do they just have better things
to be doing.
The Problems
The statistics give information for each problem, A, B and C such as the
number of users of a particular language, the average number of lines
average scores, max scores fastest times etc.
The languages used were compiled BASIC (.BC), interpreted BASIC (.BAS), C, C++ and Pascal.
I should point out that in my sample solutions, I got very fast times,
because they were tested on a fast machine and not because I'm a naturally
brilliant programmer.
The detailed results for the top 20 give an
indication of the competitive level.
