1996 All Ireland Schools Programming Competition
The competition took place on 13th and 14th of April 1996 at
DCU.
Since the competition started in 1994, the standard has been improving hugely
every year. This makes it difficult to select the top four competitors
for the team. This year besides making the
problems more difficult, an
extra problem was added on the second day. Despite this, the winner (Colin
Watson, Belfast) managed
to get full marks in all the problems. He was closely followed by four
others, Andrew McCarthy (Dublin), Eoin Curran (Dublin), Robert Beattie
(Belfast) and Paul McClave (Dublin). Paul won the Under 18 prize, the others
formed the team. It was a remarkable achievement by the above five to get
full marks on the three programs for each day.
Two members of the team, Eoin Curran and Colin Watson won bronze medals at the
IOI in Hungary.
Other results
There are also some statistics available. These
show the languages used, and average and high scores for each problem.
Did the students enjoy themselves, see what they said in the
questionnaire.
There are pictures of the competitors and some
Radio interviews that appeared on Dublin Weekend
Radio.
