Saarbrücken

Schloss Schloss

Saarbrücken is a lovely city situated in Saarland. It is 1002 years old. It is built around the Saar river and is approximately 5km away from the French border. Luxembourg is also quite close by. There is lots to see in Saarbrücken e.g the castle which was burnt to the ground in 1677, but has since been rebuilt. Although it looks quite modern now, ther is alot of history attached.

Rathaus

There is a lovely town hall, a park and loads more to see. Saarland used to lie in France, but was fought over for years by France and Germany. There are still alot of French people living in Saarland, and therefore the cultur is a mixture of French and German.

St. Johannes Markt is the Temple Bar of Saarbrücken. There are many pubs, beer gardens, restaurants and Ice-cream cafes. During the Summer people sit outside, eating, drinking and talking.

Universtität

The university is around 8km away from the city, and is surrounded by forrests. There are alot of ERASMUS students, usually around 10,000 every year. There are also many students from America, Austrailia, Africa and Asia.

People from Saarland have a strong dialect (Saarlandisch), which is quite difficult to understand, but people in the university mostly speak high German.
