Charlie Daly has developed
RoboProf, an automated teaching system that has been used at DCU
to teach introductory programming and Algorithms and Data Structures.
RoboProf generates questions on the fly which are appropriate
to a particular student's understanding. RoboProf also generates
appropriate responses to direct a student based on any misconceptions
that their response might reveals.
In addition, Charlie
Daly is interested in all aspects of the problems that students
have as they attempt to develop programming ability. He has developed
many tools to aid students. These tools include graphics and onscreen
robot APIs, Web- based tools to encourage inter-student communication,
tools to provide detailed feedback on student assignments, and
tools to help support peer and self-assessment.
Arising from previous
work in the area of embedded systems development (i.e. software
tools and real-time kernels for small standalone microprocessor
systems), Charlie Daly has a strong interest in computer communications
and mobile robots.
