Transfer Applicants
General
The University welcomes applications from students who seek
to transfer onto an undergraduate programme of study at DCU
having:
 |
Completed or about to complete a National Certificate / National Diploma programme
awarded by the Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC) or an equivalent
qualification awarded by a similar body outside of the state; or |
 |
Completed or about to complete their first year of studies (including all examinations)
on an honours degree programme awarded by a University established under the Universities
Act 1997 (including DCU), the Dublin Institute of Technology or any institution whose
degree programmes are accredited by the Higher Education and Training Awards Council
(HETAC) or an equivalent honours degree programme awarded by a body outside of the state. |
Applicants, who are registered at any institution included in the Central
Applications Office (CAO) system, and who are dependent on the outcome of their summer
examinations to determine their eligibility under the above criteria should also note that
that there is an additional "late application date" to the CAO (see www.cao.ie for date). Such
applications are assessed SOLELY on the basis of performance in Leaving Certificate (or any
equivalent school leaving examination awarded by a body outside of the state).
Further Information
Further details on National Certificate / National Diploma programmes
can be obtained from the Higher Education and Training Awards
Council (HETAC) website at http://www.hetac.ie.
Computer Applications
Holders of National Certificates in Computing with Credit or
Distinction or National Diplomas in Computing with credit may
be admitted into second year. Holders of National Diplomas in
Computing with distinction may, in certain circumstances be
admitted into the third year. Each such case will be considered
on its individual merits.
Applicants with ONE year of studies on an Honours Degree programme or equivalent
qualification (as defined above)
It is NOT necessary for the candidate to have studied in a cognate area.
Applicants may be allowed advanced entry depending on the content
of the curriculum of their studies to date and the extent of
its overlap with the content of the degree programme to which
they are applying.
Assessment
Applicants are assessed and ranked based on:
- their performance in their secondary and post-secondary studies
- the detail provided on their CAO application
- performance at interview. (shortlisting applies)
Note: Owing to a large number of applications for
transfer to undergraduate programmes for certain faculties/schools,
it is necessary to rank qualified applicants for transfer. As
a result not all qualified applicants for transfer may be offered
places.
Outcome of an Application
Candidates who apply directly to the University will be notified
of the outcome of their application in writing. As such, it
is important to ensure that your address for correspondence
is accurate and current.
