Industry Feedback

"Having read the summary of the new M.Sc. course in Computational Science and Complex Systems, I am impressed by the focus of the course and am quite sure it addresses a real need in Irish industry.

Speaking generally I would say that modelling is now pervasive in many areas of society, increasingly affecting people's daily lives. Examples include Climate Change, which is based almost entirely on computer modelling and is of major political and economic significance; Economics, where decisions directly affecting Government and population are made on the basis of computer models; and Energy, where computer modelling plays a vital role in maximising the efficiency of energy use.

In my view, it is essential that Ireland has the necessary expertise in the basic skills required for such modelling applications."

Dr. Norman Stewart, Director, Airtel ATN - The Datalink Company

"The course sounds great... It allows for third level environmental students to complement their field skills with a computing/modelling ability - I think the Masters course would be a fantastic bridge between field and biological skills and computer modelling in preparation for a PhD wherein Modelling of complex ecologies plays an ever increasing role."

Dr. Stuart Green, Remote Sensing Specialist, Teagasc
