Healthcare Management: A new option for Computing Graduates and Professionals
Dublin City University offers a unique and innovative Masters Programme in Business Informatics
(MBI), in which students can select from a large number of optional modules. The options include
Service-Oriented Architecture, Security, Cryptography, Entrepreneurship and, from September onwards,
Strategic Management in Healthcare.
The new Strategic Management in Healthcare option is delivered in conjunction with DCU's School of
Nursing. It will enable students to develop an understanding of the strategic management process in
the healthcare context and how to apply Information Technology to solve the challenges in
Healthcare.
The MBI programme is offered on a full-time and part-time basis with a remote learning backup
facility for part-time students. It equips graduates and professionals in Computing and Software
Engineering (or comparable disciplines) with an in-depth understanding of Business and Healthcare
Information Systems, both from an Irish and European perspective. The programme is delivered in
conjunction with a network of other European universities. Students undergo their practical oriented
research dissertation at one of these partner universities.
Dr. Markus Helfert, the Programme Chair added: "Graduates in Business Informatics can work
in government, healthcare, business, industry, consulting and private institutions. There are many
opportunities. It is up to the graduates which direction they choose."
