Funding for School of Computing Research Projects

Enterprise Ireland recently announced the results of the Summer 2002 call for proposals under the Research Innovation Fund. A total of 54 projects were submitted from 11 different institutions, and 18 of these were accepted for funding.

The 18 projects, which were accepted for funding, include 5 stand-alone projects from DCU, together with 1 joint DCU/UCD project. Two of the 5 DCU stand-alone projects came from groups within the School of Computing.

Cameron Ross Dunne, Thibault Candebat, and Dr. David Gray (pictured below) submitted one of these successful projects. Their research is based on creating a secure infrastructure for location-based services on the Internet.

Dr. Mike Scott submitted the other successful project from the School of Computing. His project is based on using the new invention of identity-based encryption to secure e-mail. Using identity based encryption, an email can be encrypted using only the recipients identity - for example his/her email address.

Congratulations to all involved.
