Extended
Deadline for Microsoft Scholarship Applications
The Microsoft European
Product Development Centre has generously offered to give
scholarships of £1000 (€1270 approx.) to FOUR second-year
CA students. If you gained a first in your exams last year
you are eligible to apply for one of these scholarships. The
scholarships will be awarded to the writers of the FOUR best
essays on the following topic:
Computers and Culture.
In your essay
you should describe how computing has opened up new opportunities
for artists, writers, musicians or film-makers. How do you
think this will develop in the future? Will computing allow
new art-forms to emerge?
The essays will
be judged by a committee of staff members of the School of Computing. The deadline for submission is 25 Feb
2002. The essays should be no more than 5000 words. The essay
should present your own original ideas expressed in your own
words except where otherwise stated. We encourage you to do
some background reading and to quote briefly from other sources
but you must acknowledge them in every case. You can include
images in your essay if you wish. We hope to publish the winning
essays on the School web-site.
