Strategic
Research Grants Scheme 2000

Of
the five proposals under the Strategic Research Grants Scheme
2000 , yielding total funding of £345,000, twopeople from CA
were successful. Our congratulations to Dr
David Gray and Dr Mark
Roantree. Under this scheme DCU ranked joint third (out
of 11 institutions funded) in terms of the number of successful
proposals and fifth in terms of total funding awarded.

| Computer
Applications (Dr
D. Gray, Dr G. Hamilton, Dr J. Morris & Dr D. Sinclair)
and NUI Maynooth (Dr P. Gibson & Dr J.
Power) have been awarded £70,500 for the project IMPROVE
(IMplementing PROtocol Verification for
E-commerce). The industrial partner is Baltimore Technologies
Limited.
The
aim of the project is to apply formal methods to the verification
and validation of security protocols used in e-commerce applications.

Mark Roantree: |
| The
IOMPAR Project which represents a collaboration between the Interoperable
Systems Group and the Security Group have received funding of
£73k from Enterprise Ireland. The project will be jointly lead
by Mark Roantree and Mike Scott and runs for two years starting
in autumn 2000. |
