  • International Business Informatics Challenge 2006 Award
    (4th September '06)

Mr Rostislav Markov - student from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg - has won the award for best submission to the International Business Informatics Challenge 2006. His submission entitled "Economical Impact of IT Investments in the Public Sector: The Case of Local Electronic Government" contributes to the evaluation of the economical impact of public information technology investments. His research presents an evaluation conducted over a period of one year of investments in electronic government at a local authority in Germany.

All submitted full papers to the International Business Informatics Challenge were reviewed by an international committee. Mr Markov's contribution was selected as best submission considering selection criteria such as relevance for Business Informatics, importance of topic, originality of work, and presentation and clarity and relevance for practice. The International Business Informatics Challenge is organised in relation to the launch of DCU's new European MSc in Business Informatics.

  • Research Scholarship in Software Design Methodologies for Automotive Systems
    (23rd August '06)

Lero, the Irish Software Engineering Research Centre, advances the state-of-the-art in software engineering for specific domains, as is initially focussed on the automotive sector. Lero is a partnership of industry and academic researchers from UL, TCD, UCD and DCU. Lero is supported by Science Foundation Ireland.

Lero is offering a funded studentship in the area of design methodologies for hybrid systems based in the School of Computing, DCU. This project addresses the specification, design and verification of embedded software systems in environments with continuous dynamics. Hybrid systems are characterised by both discrete and continuous state changes. These hybrid systems, and hence their software components, may also have to meet hard and soft timing constraints. The goal of the project is to develop a design methodology which will assist the user in developing a specification that not only captures the behaviour of the embedded software but also captures a description of the continuous dynamics of the environment being controlled by the software. Further details can be found by clicking here or emailing Dr. David Sinclair at
