Digital Library: (22nd May '02)
Full text access to a large number of computing journals in electronic
form is available. One can search the other ACM publications through
the Digital Library but only bibliographic data or abstracts can
be viewed. Full details are available from DCU Library

- Microsoft
Scholarships: (3rd May '02)
This year's Microsoft Scholarships have just been awarded to four
students from our CA degree course (Dermot Brennan, Aodhan Cullen,
Dermot Duffy, Rory McTague). Each student submitted a 5000 word
essay on the topic 'Computers and Culture' discussing the way
in which computers have created new avenues for artists, writers,
musicians and film-makers. Each win €1200. Congratulations!

- Vision/DCU
New Business Idea Awards: (29th April '02)
Congratulations to Declan Boylan (MECT), Dominique Carr (MECT),
Ivan Heneghan (MECB), Frank Marshall (MECT) and Colm Troy (MECB)
whose practicum idea, vVenue, won joint second in the Vision/DCU
Business Idea awards.

- Intel
Ireland Scholarships: (21st March '02)
Intel Ireland are offering 7 scholarships worth €2000 per
annum to present full-time second year students in a computing/science/engineering
discipline. Closing date extended to Wednesday 27th March 2002.

Professor Josef Van Genabith:
(15th March '02)
Congratulations to Dr. Josef van Genabith who is soon to be Professor
Josef van Genabith! His elevation to Associate Professor has been
approved by the Governing Body and will take effect shortly.

- Annual
Report 2000/2001: (10th March '02)
The Annual report for the year 2000/2001 for the School of Computing is now available on-line.

- Awards
for Computer Applications Lecturers: (8th March '02)
Many CA lecturers have received awards in the recent round of
Albert College Research Awards:-Andy, Dónal, Hyowon and
Monica received Albert College Fellowships, Jane H., Heather and
Josef received awards under the Strategic Alliance Programme.
John Mc K and Alan won travel grants. Congratulations to all.

- Formal
Methods/Security Seminars: (13th February '02)
Seminars on Formal Methods/Security issues will recommence on
Friday, 15th February 2002. Speakers include post-graduate research
students and lecturers. Venue L2.21 Time 11.00 am. (All seminars
are subject to change so please check page regularly).

- Deadline
for Microsoft Scholarship Scheme Extended: (28th January '02)
The Microsoft Scholarship competition deadline has been extended
until February 25th 2002. This competition is open to second year
students who gained a first class honours last year.
