  • Winners of Essay Competition: (25th January '01)
    Mark Boyle and Paul Matteucci were the two winners in an essay competition for the scholarships donated by the Microsoft European Product Development Centre. The EPDC has kindly offered to give prizes of £1000 to each of two students.
  • Exit Survey on Final Year Students -- School Policy Document: (23rd January '01)
    While surveys of individual modules on a variety of courses taught in the School have been conducted in the past two years, there have been no surveys of entire academic programmes to date. It is proposed that beginning with the academic year 2000-01, exit surveys of final year students in all academic programmes taught within the School will be instigated.
  • DCLRS Seminar Series : (23rd January '01)
    Dublin Computational Linguistics Research Seminars 2000/2001, hosted jointly by SALIS and the School of Computer Aplications resumes again after the Christmas break with the first seminar on Friday the 26th January.
  • Barcoding for Student Assignments: (22nd January '01)
    A new project cover form, with barcode is now available off the main CA webpage and will be effective from the start of Semester II. This will replace the old project cover form and will include a unique barcode for each form. Students will complete a Web form, print it and attach it as a cover sheet to their submissions. The Web Form is internally and externally accessible. The form must be printed on a laser printer as the lab line printers do not give sufficient quality for scanning. Laser printers are available in L114 and throughout the campus.
  • School Research Convenor : (18th January '01)
    Dr. Geoff Hamilton is now the new research convenor in the School of Computing.
  • Helpdesk Webpage: (18th January '01)
    A new Computer Applications Helpdesk Webpage is now available. Many of the common computer problems which students frequent the Helpdesk for, have been addressed.
  • Campus Residents now have access to Físchlár: (3rd January '01)
    The Físchlár web demo system to record, browse and playback TV programmes is now available to the campus residents.
  • Ericsson donation: (23rd November '00)
    The Radio Networks Support Centre in Ericsson Systems in Clonskeagh, Dublin, have donated a pair of Professional Bluetooth Development kits for research purposes to Brian Stone and his students, here in the School of Computing. This will allow those researchers to develop wireless mobile applications as well as to do research on bluetooth technology. The donation is valued at about £12,000. We are very grateful to Ericsson for this support.
  • "Intellectual Property issues for Software" - Talk for CA4s and CL4s: (22nd November '00)
    Robert Cochrane, Head of the Centre for Software Engineering will be giving a talk on "Intellectual Property issues for Software", next Wednesday 29th November from 14.00-15.00 in QG13. The talk will cover how patenting and copyright issues apply to software development. All CA4s and CL4s are invited to attend.
  • SmartForce - new sponsorship agreement worth £200,000 : (9th November '00)
    SmartForce, the e-learning company, today announced details of a new sponsorship agreement worth £200,000 with Dublin City University. SmartForce will provide resources and guest lecturers as part of the DCU M.Sc in Electronic Commerce. The Masters program in Electronic Commerce is a one-year full time course featuring a core curriculum with a choice of Business or Technical streams.
  • Congratulations to our New Graduates : (5th November '00)
    On Friday, 3 November 2000, another 280 graduates joined the ranks of graduates with degrees from the School of Computing at Dublin City University. This included 138 graduating with a B.Sc. in Computer Applications, 12 graduating with a B.Sc. in Applied Computational Linguistics, 107 graduating with a Graduate Diploma in Information Technology and 23 with various Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Masters degrees.     School policy on Intellectual Property arising from undergraduate and taught postgraduate project work, is now available online.
  • Annual Report 1999/2000: (16th October '00)
    The Annual report for the year 1999/2000 for the School of Computing is now available on-line
  • Copyright Statement: (6th October '00)
    There is now an online statement on copyright, which applies to all student projects.
  • Plagiarism: (6th October '00)
    The School's policy on copying is now available on-lin
  • CAE4 optional subjects 2000/2001: (6th October '00)
    The optional subjects running for CAE this year are as follows:
    CA405: Parallel and Distributed Algorithms , CA409: Databases, CA412: Computer Graphics all timetabled on Thursdays 6:30 to 8:00
    CA473: Applied Cryptographic Protocols, CA414: Multimedia Information Systems timetabled on Thursdays 8:00 to 9:3
  • New Equipment: (14th September '00)
    220 new PCs are being stalled in the undergraduate/taught postgraduate laboratories. The majority of these are 733 MHz Pentiums with 128 MB Ram and 10 GB disk running Wondows/NT and Solaris. These new machines go in L101, L201, LG26, LG27 and LG28. LG01 is also being equipped with new machines, 550 MHz Pentiums which run Wondows NT only
