To connect to your Linux/UNIX account from outside the School of Computing, you have to SSH to the student server student.computing.dcu.ie (Also called eiger.computing.dcu.ie). Insecure connections using telnet and ftp are no longer permitted on the network.

PuTTY is a SSH client for Windows. You can download it for free.

If you want to copy files to/from your Unix/Linux account, you may find WinSCP useful.
